January 20, 2011

KNOXVILLE -- Radio Systems Corporation, makers of the PetSafe brand, announced that Dean Vickers has joined the corporation as Director of Animal Welfare Studies and Education. Vickers will provide education on the proper use and benefits of PetSafe products to legislators and pet owners worldwide. He will also collaborate with new product engineers and designers to improve products based on feedback from the pet behavior community.

Radio Systems Corporation has remained dedicated to providing tools to help pet owners address the behavioral issues that often lead to selective care of pets and eventual shelter surrender. "Behavioral problems are the number one reason people give up their pets," said Randy Boyd, founder and CEO of Radio Systems. "Through coordinating with pet professionals and organizations, Dean Vickers will ensure we are doing all we can to bring the best products and training methods to market while working to educate pet owners about their options for addressing behavior issues. In the end, we expect Dean's role to help ensure more pets have healthy happy homes."

Vickers has spent a majority of his career in advocacy. In 2006, Vickers was hired as the Ohio State Director for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). In that role he assisted with animal abuse and neglect cases, as well as assisting with rescue during natural disasters, animal hoarding, and large scale animal abuse cases. Vickers also spent several years advocating to strengthen animal welfare laws at the Ohio Statehouse both with HSUS and as an independent consultant.

He has also conducted trainings, written articles and given speeches on animal welfare, rescue and advocacy issues throughout the United States for diverse audiences.

Vickers is a graduate from The Ohio State University with a degree in History and Political Science. He currently lives in Knoxville with his three rescue dogs, Annikka, J'Maul and Isabella.

Headquartered in Knoxville, Radio Systems Corporation (RSC) is the maker of the PetSafeĀ®, Invisible FenceĀ®, SportDOGĀ® brands. RSC is an industry leader in the management of pet behavior and lifestyle product and services solutions.
