Special events planned for Martin Luther King Day

A series of events, planned by the MLK Commemoration Commission of Greater Knoxville, will commemorate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Most of the events are scheduled on the holiday, January 17, as well as during the five days preceding the MLK holiday.
The annual MLK Memorial March Parade will be held on Monday, January 17th and will begin at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2137 Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. at 10 AM. The parade Co-Grand Marshals being honored are the first African American U.T. undergraduates, Theotis Robinson, Jr., Charles Edgar Blair, and Willie Mae Gillespie and the first African American U.T. graduate students, Lincoln Blakeney and Gene Gray, who were admitted to the university eight years earlier.
It is anticipated that over 230 groups will participate in the parade.
