2011 Flip Fest Gymnastics Invitational returns to Knoxville
January 13, 2011

KNOXVILLE -- The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation is pleased to welcome the Flip Fest Gymnastics Invitational back to the Knoxville Convention Center this weekend. Events will kick off on Friday, January 14 and continue through Monday, January 17. Three-time Olympian John Roethlisberger, Olympian John Macready, and Premier Athletics are the hosts of this prestigious gymnastics, plus trampoline and tumbling, competition.

The Flip Fest Gymnastics Invitational, presented by Texas Roadhouse Restaurant, will feature over 2,800 athletes from 15 different states in Men's Gymnastics, Women's Gymnastics, and Trampoline & Tumbling. Several thousand spectators are expected to attend the event. The Flip Fest has become one of the largest and most successful gymnastics' competitions in the country. A majority of the athletes competing are below the age of 18. Many hope to attain Olympic glory in the years to come. This competition is a sanctioned event of USA Gymnastics, the national governing body of the sport.

The Flip Fest Invitational is, once again, a qualifying competition for Women's Gymnastics. It is an official invitational of the Nastia Liukin Cup series. Nastia Liukin was the Olympic women's all-around champion at the Olympic Games in 2008. USA Gymnastics has collaborated with her to create the Nastia Liukin Cup, a nationally televised competition for 40 of the top female gymnasts in the country, to be held Friday, March 4th in Jacksonville, Florida. The top two female gymnasts from the Flip Fest Invitational will qualify for the 2nd Nastia Liukin Cup.
