January 5, 2011, 2:18 p.m.

WASHINGTON -- Shortly after the Republican-led chamber convened today, Republican John Boehner was elected in a vote by the full 435-member House during its 112th Congress.

At 2:05 p.m. former Democrat Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, passed the gavel to Boehner in House chambers. After delivering a moving speech, Boehner took the oath of office at 2:16 p.m.

Boehner stated that Congress would begin changing the economy by cutting Congress's own budget.

Boehner has 11 siblings, 10 of which attended today's event. Boehner was the only child in his family who was able to attend college.

The Boehner family recently had a reunion at Andy's Cafe.

"I have 11 brothers and sisters, and my dad ran a bar." For years, audiences across America have heard Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) introduce himself that way. . .and now there's video to illustrate.

On November 22, 2010, as part of the filming sessions for the CBS program "60 Minutes," Boehner was joined by 10 of his 11 siblings for a family reunion at Andy's Café, the Cincinnati-area tavern founded in 1938 by their grandfather, Andrew Boehner. Boehner staff took some candid footage, which "60 Minutes" gave its blessing to release, with a handheld camcorder.

Andy's Café was run for decades by the Boehner siblings' late father, Earl Boehner, with help from John and his brothers and sisters, who mopped floors and performed other chores at the family business on Vine Street as they were growing up in nearby Reading, Ohio. Earl's smiling photo, visible early in the video clip, still adorns the wall behind the bar at Andy's.

Joining John at Andy's on November 22 were Boehner siblings Bob, Steve, Nancy, Rick, Lynda, Drew, Pete, Jerry, Sue, and Michael, and a number of their spouses and children. (John's brother Greg, who lives in Georgia, was unable to attend.) The siblings came to the family tavern in Carthage, Ohio, that afternoon to welcome home and congratulate their brother, who had been elected Speaker-designate for the 112th Congress by the House Republican Conference five days earlier, on his 61st birthday.
