Pigeon Forge water system not affected by Gatlinburg plant collapse
April 6, 2011

Precious Story: Major sewer plant accident in Gatlinburg

PIGEON FORGE, TN -- On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, the water treatment plant in Gatlinburg, TN collapsed causing over 1.3 million gallons of sewage to pour into the Little Pigeon River.

Although the river flows through Pigeon Forge, it does not affect Pigeon Forge's water system. Pigeon Forge's drinking water comes from Douglas Lake, not the Little Pigeon River.

While the Little Pigeon River itself is posted and people should avoid contact with the river until Gatlinburg reopens its treatment plant, this does not affect Pigeon Forge and its businesses.

The drinking water is 100 percent safe in Pigeon Forge, and the city and businesses welcome all visitors.
