New film being shot in Knoxville depicts the Battle of Wilderness

KNOXVILLE - A new film is being shot in Knoxville. The highly anticipated film, 'Into the Wilderness', depicts the Battle of the Wilderness. The story is about a war-hardened Confederate soldier from North Carolina who is faced with a life-changing decision in the heat of battle.

New Film Group, LLC, and director Richard De Witt extend their gratitude to the Tennessee Film Commission and the Visit Knoxville Film Office, as well as to peace activist Ken Nwadike, Jr., who is co-creating a documentary of his life’s story and work called ‘Free Hugs!’ with a parallel release with ‘Into the Wilderness’.

According to the Visit Knoxville Film Office Director Curt Willis, “We are very proud to welcome the talented folks at New Film Group to Knoxville. We have worked hard to make the city film-friendly and attracting projects like this is exactly what we had in mind in our efforts to grow Knoxville as a destination for high quality independent feature films. With a quick and easy permitting process, low housing costs, low-cost or free city owned locations, professional crews, a very supportive community, and local cash incentives in addition to the 25% rebate from the Tennessee Entertainment Commission, we think Knoxville is a great place for productions to call home. The VK Film Office looks forward to building a strong relationship with the great people at New Film Group and working together for a long time to come.”

The film’s crew will be working with the Visit Knoxville Film Office to schedule open auditions in downtown Knoxville. Audition submissions are now open and can be uploaded via the film’s website.

The crew is searching for a leading role for ‘Into the Wilderness’ right now. 10-11 year old African American kids are asked to submit their auditions immediately for consideration. Principal photography is slated to begin in September 2018 and continue through October 2018, and the film is slated to debut in 2019.

An open casting call will be held at Gage Talent (408 N. Cedar Bluff Ste 100, Knoxville, TN 37923) on June 24, 2018, from 1pm-6pm; June 25, 2018, from 6pm-9pm; and audition callbacks on June 27 and 28, 2018, at assigned times. Anyone wishing to audition should bring materials and go online to provide their e-mail address and upload resumes, head shots, and reels at www.wildernessmovie.com.

The film is expected to debut in 2019. Auditions are currently underway.
