KNOXVILLE – East Tennessee PBS announces that the station is taking part in a public awareness campaign to promote National Estate Planning Awareness Week, October 16–22, 2017.

Estate planning is one of the most overlooked areas of personal financial management. It’s been estimated that more than 120 million Americans do not have proper estate plans to protect themselves or their families in the event of sickness, accidents, or untimely death. This circumstance can cause many families unnecessary expense and financial hardship. Proper planning can help avoid these unintended consequences.

In 2008, Congress passed a resolution proclaiming the third week in October as National Estate Planning Awareness Week. “Public television has long served as an advocate for financial literacy. Estate planning is a critical component of the financial health of most adults,” said Vickie Lawson, CEO and President of East Tennessee PBS.

East Tennessee PBS will recognize National Estate Planning Week by providing local residents a FREE financial planning booklet. The booklet will allow the user to start organizing their financial assets and thinking through their personal goals. Any person interested in receiving this booklet may contact Judy Cutaia, East Tennessee PBS Director of Planned Giving at 865-595-0223 or

“For nearly 50 years, East Tennessee PBS has provided public television programs and educational services to the people in this community. Raising awareness about estate planning is in line with our public service and educational mission and we are excited to be able to offer this valuable resource,” said Lawson.

East Tennessee PBS is a nonprofit, viewer supported PBS television member station serving East Tennessee since 1967. East Tennessee PBS provides lifelong learning opportunities to more than 1 million viewers in East Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, Southeast Virginia and Western North Carolina. The station achieves this by broadcasting non-violent, commercial-free children's series; instructional programs; and primetime shows that educate, entertain, inform and inspire. East Tennessee PBS exists to serve the needs of East Tennessee as a community partner affecting positive change by educating, entertaining and challenging minds.
