East TN Kidney Foundation inviting runner and volunteers for run and walk

KNOXVILLE — Registration is now open for the 6K run and 2K walk by the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation (ETKF).

Local dialysis patients will benefit from the 4th Annual “Lucky Kidney” 6K Run/2K Walk presented by Fresenius Medical Care on Saturday, March 14, at 9 a.m. in downtown Knoxville.

ETKF helps local kidney patients in 15 East Tennessee counties with costs for transportation to and from dialysis treatments and provides nutritional supplements and also blankets to make dialysis treatments more comfortable for patients. It also provides patient and caregiver education; facilitates prevention, detection and awareness of kidney disease; and promotes organ donation.

“There’s no better way to promote the well-being of East Tennessee dialysis patients than to get some exercise in Knoxville’s beautiful downtown and historic Fourth and Gill neighborhood,” said ETKF Executive Director Katie Martin. “Anyone whose life has been touched by kidney disease or just interested in enjoying the outdoors for a great cause is welcome to participate.”

On-site registration is $35 and begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Krutch Park Extension on Gay Street. Registration is free for children 10 and younger.

A $35 “Snooze Button” registration allows individuals to support the race without participation on race day. To register, visit http://www.etkidney.org.

Run and walk participants and “Snooze Button” supporters will receive a race T-shirt and other items from race sponsors. Run participants will be eligible for individual and team awards.

Individuals or community service groups interested in volunteering may contact Martin at 865-288-7351 or katie@etkidney.org.

The ETKF Lucky Kidney 6K Run/2K Walk is sponsored by Dialysis Clinic Inc.; WATE-TV 6, WJXB-FM 97.5, Pinnacle Financial Partners, Priority Ambulance, Tennessee Donor Services, University Nephrology, University of Tennessee Medical Center, All Ocassions Party Rentals and GoTeez, Inc.
