YWCA Diversity Day set for Saturday, Jan. 17

KNOXVILLE – The YWCA Knoxville will hold its annual Diversity Day and Race Against Racism 5K on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Registration and a pre-race festival will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center, 124 S. Cruze St.

This event takes place the Saturday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and provides the community an opportunity to honor diversity, wellness, and dignity for all people. With a mission to eliminate racism and empower women, the YWCÅ hopes to provide a platform for people of all races, genders and backgrounds to come together for a day of unity and celebration.

The 5K run, 1-mile walk and .25-mile fun run for kids will begin at 1:00 p.m. concluding with an awards presentation at 2:00 p.m. Attendees and participants can enjoy refreshments, entertainment, speakers, local exhibitors, and more.

This family friendly event welcomes all age groups. Proceeds from Diversity Day will benefit YWCA Knoxville programs, including free youth and senior programming at the east Knoxville Phyllis Wheatley Center.

The YWCA encourages individuals, groups, families, teams, businesses and organizations to get involved. For complete sponsorship and registration details, visit www.ywcaknox.com.
