Knoxville designer wins 2nd place in world balloon competition

Rachel Glandon wins 2nd place in the World Balloon Convention.   

KNOXVILLE -- Rachel Glandon, CBA, designer with Above the Rest Balloon and Event Designs in Knoxville, TN  was awarded 2nd place in the Medium Sculpture Design Competition at the World Balloon Convention which was held in Dallas, TX last week.   

above the rest balloonForty-seven countries were represented at the convention, and  the Above the Rest team had the honor of being the only American team to win one of the 29 prestigious awards given.    Glandon's design entitled, "Spring in the Smokies,"  consisted of over 6,500 balloons and utilized new techniques that had never been seen in the balloon industry.  The sculpture included a 4' black bear in her native habitat of spring flowers, dogwood and pine trees, along with a mountain stream.  1,855 balloons were used to create the bear itself and took 11 hours to construct.  The team of 15 members, representing 8 states, worked in a timed 12-hour competition with all work created on site.

Rachel Glandon is a designer for Above The Rest Balloon and Event Designs which was founded six years ago by Dianna Glandon, CBA, who is President and owner. The design team absolutely loves creating unique décor for people planning special events and celebrations and considers it a blessing to serve those people saving them time, energy, stress and money, while making their event look Above the Rest. One of their goals is to make clients exclaim, "WOW!" when experiencing their unique balloon designs.

The Glandons have studied with the best instructors in the balloon event decorating industry from around the world, including instructors from Japan, Italy, Australia, England, Belgium, Netherlands, France and the United States. For the past six years, they have traveled throughout the US, learning and forming relationships with design masters. They are now considered experts in the balloon industry, staying abreast of the most recent trends, designs, and products. Both were designated as  CBA s (Certified Balloon Artists) in 2010, designating them as  high-quality balloon professionals and two of 2,500 CBA's in the world.
