Nestled near the summit of the third highest peak in the Smokies, LeConte Lodge is a tranquil retreat where hikers can comfortably rest their weary bones. Only a short hike from the lodge, Myrtle Point offers sunrises and Clifftops sunsets- each being breathtakingly beautiful. When staying at the lodge, you are treated to hardy food, friendly service, and the peaceful company of Mother Nature.

Discover Life in America is hosting its annual Biodiversity Hike to LeConte Lodge on September 3rd-4th. This unique experience will include a naturalist guide who will teach about the local human history, natural history, plant life information and much more as we hike Alum Cave trail.

In the afternoon a picnic lunch will be provided on the trail by DLIA, and at LeConte, dinner and breakfast will be served hot and fresh from the lodge's kitchen.

After dinner there will be a brief presentation by executive director Todd Witcher on DLIA and the ongoing All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) project. A sunset program on Great Smoky Mountain National Park will be held at Clifftops, given by the National Park Service, to wrap up the days events.

At the end of the stay with us at LeConte Lodge, participants will receive handmade DLIA stationary as a thank you gift for supporting DLIA and biodiversity research in the Smokies.

The cost is $275 per person to hike to the highest overnight lodge east of the Mississippi River. This covers meals and lodging, along with supporting DLIA and the ATBI.

Call executive director Todd Witcher at 865-430-4757 to register. Space is limited.
