  Cancer Support Community offers free programs


The Cancer Support Community is offering special programs in January, 2017. All programs are free.

-Thursdays, January 5 & 19, 1:00-3:00pm. Knit Your Way to Wellness. Shelley Hecht, Loopville Instructor. Whether you are a novice knitter or an old pro, you are invited to bring your own project or join others in learning a new one. Special attention will be provided to beginners interested in learning how to knit and experience the meditative quality of knitting. Supplies provided. 865-546-4661. 2230 Sutherland Avenue. -Thursday, January 5, 6:00-7:30pm. Family Bereavement Group. CSC is committed to providing bereavement services to those who have lost a loved one to cancer. -Sunday, January 8, 4:30-6:00pm. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8-Week Series Orientation. Dianne Lemieux, PhD. This series is a systematic practice that involves focusing attention in the present moment in order to relax the body and calm the mind. Evidence shows regular mindfulness practice helps us manage stress, reduce anxiety and depression and cultivate well-being. This series meets January 22-March 12. -Tuesday, January 10, noon-1:30pm. Nutrition Ammunition: Improve Your Health in 2017. Beth Booker, MS, MPH, RD. Want to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables? -Wednesday, January 11, 2:00-2:45pm. Chair Yoga. Randy Rainey, Certified Yoga Instructor. Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. It incorporates yoga postures, breathing techniques, and ways of relaxation with the aid of a chair. -Monday, January 16, 6:00-7:30pm. Teen Night. Kathleen Williams, LCSW. A monthly networking group for teens ages 13-18 who have a family member with cancer. -Wednesday, January 18, noon-1:30pm. How Am I Supposed to Feel? Debra Sullivan, PhD. Emotional distress during and after cancer treatment is common. Learn to identify signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and how our thoughts and behaviors can both help and hurt us.
