Knox County Health Department hosts women’s health conference

KNOXVILLE — The Knox County Health Department (KCHD), in collaboration with the Teen Health Empowerment Program and Knoxville Adolescent Partners in Prevention Initiative (KAPPI), is hosting an educational conference titled Women Today and Tomorrow, a Conference for Professionals: Every Woman, a Healthy Woman on Thursday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Tennessee Conference Center, 600 Henley Street.

Presentations include:
• STIs and Adolescent Girls: What’s Known, What’s New and What We Can Do - Lydia Shrier, MD, MPH, senior associate in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and an associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

• Smoking Cessation During Pregnancy - Beth Bailey, Ph.D., professor and director of primary care research in the Department of Family Medicine at East Tennessee State University.

• Sexual Violence and Its Effect on Women’s Health - Jill Rutter, RN, MSN, PCPNP-BC, CCE, professor in the School of Nursing at Belmont University.

• Cultural Competency and Women’s Health - Betsy Haughton, Ed.D., RD, LDN, professor emeritus in the Department of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Tennessee.

The conference is open to anyone interested in women’s health issues. The cost is $35 for those who pre-register. A discounted rate of $10 is available for students. For those who register the day of the conference, the fee is $40 or $15 for students. Registration is available at mybodymyfuture.com. Continuing education credits are available for nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and health educators.
