Monroe Consort to perform Handel's Messiah in Athens and Sweetwater

The Monroe Consort and soloists from the Monroe Area Opera will be performing Handel's oratorio "The Messiah" on Saturday December 4th and Sunday December 5th. The Saturday performance will be at 7:30 PM in the Sanctuary of Keith Memorial Methodist Church, 600 Madison Avenue in Athens. The Sunday performance will be at 3:00 PM in the Brown Intermediate School Auditorium, 135 Sterrett Street, Sweetwater. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

A special performance for area public school students will take place at Brown Intermediate School at 12:30 on Friday December 3rd.

The performers will be wearing 18th Century costumes. Soloists include Sopranos Nancy Owens and Savannah Roberts, Countertenor Kyle Renfro, Mezzo-sopranos Judy Maiuri and Laura Laurence, Tenor Grae Taylor and Bass Josh Gettinger. Dr. Douglas H. Manley will accompany and Dr. Karel J. Bouse will conduct.
