Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder to perform at Gatlinburg Convention Center
January 26, 2022

15-time Grammy Award Winner, Country Music Hall of Fame
member to cap off Gatlinburg’s 5th Annual Tennessee
Songwriters Week on February 26

GATLINBURG, TN - Bluegrass music legend Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will perform in Gatlinburg on Saturday, February 26 at 8 p.m. as part of the celebration of the 5th Annual Tennessee Songwriters Week. The concert will be held in the intimate Mills Auditorium in the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Only 800 tickets will be sold starting at $45 and $55 and can be purchased at Gatlinburg.com/RickySkaggs.

Skaggs is a 15-time Grammy Award winner best known for his hit songs “Country Boy,” “Highway 40 Blues,” and "Honey (Open That Door)," to name a few. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, the youngest to be inducted at the time at the age of 27. In 1997, Skaggs established his record label, Skaggs Family Records. Since then, he and his bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder have released eight consecutive Grammy-winning classics. In 2020, Skaggs was awarded the National Medal of Arts for his contribution to the American music industry. His passion for bluegrass music was instilled as a child, learning to play the mandolin at the age of 5 and appearing on stage with the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe, at the age of 6. Skaggs has helped preserve and celebrate the bluegrass genre since the passing of Monroe in 1996 and has firmly created a legacy of being among the most talented bluegrass artists in history.

“Bluegrass music and the mountains are meant to be together, and there is no better artist to celebrate the two than the legendary Ricky Skaggs,” said Marci Claude, Public Relations Manager for the Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We could not be more excited and honored to host him and his electrifying band, Kentucky Thunder, here in Gatlinburg as we celebrate Tennessee Songwriters Week. If you want to see a Hall of Fame artist and some of the world’s most renowned bluegrass musicians shake the rafters of Mills Auditorium, I encourage you to purchase tickets soon because they’ll go fast.”

Tennessee Songwriters Week is a statewide celebration that supports music venues, generates awareness of songwriters’ contributions to Tennessee, paves the way for future artists and inspires travelers to experience the state’s music stories, history, attractions, and venues. Songwriters enter original music into the contest, with winners of the qualifying rounds advancing to showcase events at venues in Memphis, Franklin, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Johnson City. The showcase winners earn a chance to take the stage at The Bluebird Café in Nashville for the event’s finale.
