Cape Fear Kite Festival returns to Southeast NC coast

KURE BEACH, NC -- The one-of-a-kind Cape Fear Kite Festival is back and better than ever Nov. 4-6. Each year, visitors come from all over the country to the North Carolina shore to the see the sky come alive with incredible kites of all shapes, sizes and colors during this unique tradition on the beach. This year’s 15th annual event will kick off on Friday evening with A Night with Kites, as flyers light up the sky with illuminated kites. Saturday and Sunday’s festivities will feature food trucks, live bands and other vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the scenic Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. This family- and dog-friendly event is free for spectators, so head down to the sand and pick the perfect spot to watch the beautiful kites as they fly overhead!

The event will take place in small town Kure Beach. Visitors will not only be dazzled by the kaleidoscope of kites but will also be delighted by the slower pace of life in this charming beach town. Leave time for seasonal activities like an eco-tour to an uninhabited island, or step back in time with a walking tour of the Civil War’s largest land and sea battle. Enjoy mild temperatures with a stroll along the shoreline, a round of disc golf, a trip to an oceanfront park or a meal alfresco. Before you head home, stop by neighboring Carolina Beach. Known for its laid-back beach vibe and down-to-earth good times, there you’ll discover a vintage boardwalk, colorful murals painted by local artists, fall brews at local restaurants and breweries, a state park and much more.
