The Tennessee Wind Symphony will celebrate its 30th anniversary in concert on Sunday, August 22 at 6:00 PM inside the stunning Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The commander and conductor of the United States Air Force Band, Colonel Don Schofield, will be featured as a guest conductor.

Numerous musical styles will be performed and memories of 30 years shared, as the Tennessee Wind Symphony (TWS) presents its first concert in 18 months. The event is free and open to the public, with donations accepted to support the nonprofit TWS. Tickets can be obtained through www.eventbrite.com and searching “Cathedral Concert: Tennessee Wind Symphony”, or at the door before the concert while supplies last.

Located at 711 S Northshore Drive in Bearden, the spectacular Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus plays host to several musical ensembles each year as part of the Cathedral Concert Series. The TWS has become a regular on the Concert Series schedule, drawing large crowds each performance.

The TWS, formerly the East Tennessee Concert Band, was founded in 1991. The group’s conductor is Dr. John N. Culvahouse. The all-volunteer membership includes working professionals, current and retired band directors, college students, and “Rising Star” high school students.

The TWS presents a year-round series of concerts in a wide range of venues. It is dedicated to excellence in symphonic band performance and to providing quality band music to the people of Tennessee and the surrounding area. In addition to a regular schedule of concerts in East Tennessee, the TWS has performed in Washington, DC, London, England and twice at Carnegie Hall, New York, NY, and has received numerous awards and acclamations. The TWS was the 2007-2008 recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Silver Scroll, North America’s most prestigious award for community concert bands.
