Disney on Ice returns to Knoxville

The beauty, splendor and magic of Disney on Ice presents Frozen is coming to Knoxville for two shows Oct 28 at the Knoxville Coliseum and Civic Center. The show is the adaptation of the hit Disney animated movie by the same name.

“Frozen” is the story of two sisters, Anna and Queen Elsa, whose icy powers trapped the kingdom in an eternal winter. Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven set out to find Elsa who has fled the kingdom. The band of heroes encounter wintry conditions and mystical trolls in a race to Elsa, break the curse and bring back summer. The show is hosted by Mickey and Minnie and features unforgettable music and special appearances by the Disney Princesses, Woody, Buzz, Dory and more.

Charlene Ramelet is now in her second year with show. Originally from Roanne, France, she began ice skating at the age of 5. She competed in numerous competitions and graduated college where she chemical and pharmaceutical engineering.

“I play several different characters in the show,” Ramelet said. “Among other parts I play one of the ladies attending the coronation of Queen Elsa.”

The show is currently engaged in a 55 city tour that will keep the performers on the road for 9 months. Producing the show is a gargantuan task requiring the efforts of almost 100 performers, technicians and road crew. Performers routinely spend as much as five hours a day in rehearsals carefully practicing every turn and move in an effort to provide the fans with a memorable experience. The cast and crew is comprised of a litany of people of numerous nationalities.

“We are in a different a city every week,” Ramelet said. “This tour will take us through the United States, Mexico and Canada. For me this was a dream come true. I have always loved Disney and I enjoy performing. My favorite part, however, is when the show is over and I get to meet with young fans. When you see the smile on their faces and their eyes light up it’s so wonderful. This is the best job ever.”

Frozen is a 2013 American 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 53rd Disney animated feature film, it is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen.”
