For fifty years, Del McCoury’s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans. McCoury is something special, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks, schoolhouse shows, and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. He is also a commandingly vital presence today, from prime time and late night talk shows on television to music festivals where audiences number in the hundreds of thousands. In May 2018, Del McCoury released his new album Del McCoury Still Sings Bluegrass (the album title is a nod to his 1968 record, Del McCoury Sings Bluegrass ) .

This will be McCoury’s second visit to the Clayton Center for the Arts. After the sold out WDVX World Class Bluegrass concert at the Clayton Center in 2016, General Manager Blake Smith had the opportunity to book Del McCoury Band & Friends as part of the 2018-2019 season and considered it “an easy decision”. “I am a huge bluegrass fan myself, and was pleased to bring such a legend back to the Clayton Center. I believe that anyone who loves great music and appreciates amazing musicians will love this concert. This will be Sierra Hull’s second time on the Clayton Center stage and we are looking forward to welcoming The Gibson Brothers as well. “ said Smith. Sierra Hull has been recognized from age 11 as a virtuoso mandolin-player. With accolades including the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year; Song of the Year; Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year—in some cases multiple times—the Gibson Brothers need no introduction in the bluegrass world.

The Clayton Center for the Arts, located on the Maryville College campus and constructed through a unique partnership between the College and the cities of Maryville and Alcoa, is East Tennessee’s venue for arts and entertainment. As a gathering place for the community and the home of Maryville College fine and performing arts programs, the Clayton Center provides opportunities for the lifelong expression and appreciation of the arts.

The 1,200-seat Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre features dance, theatre, concerts, lectures and other events. The 250-seat Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall hosts a wide variety of musicians and performers. The 200-seat Haslam Family Flexible Theatre is capable of supporting theatrical performances from amateur and professional companies. Four art galleries display collections and works of art from Appalachia and beyond.
