Big South Fork NRRA fourth annual photo contest winners announced

ONEIDA, TN - Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area recently hosted their fourth annual photography contest. An Art-in-the-Park reception was held over Labor Day weekend to announce the winners of the contest. The celebration featured refreshments and live bluegrass music by Quentin Acres and Mark Hancock.

The entrants for the Art-in-the-Park photography contest submitted photos in seven categories. The winners were announced at the September 1 event:
• Kentucky Landscapes – Michael Cochis, London, Kentucky, with Dick’s Gap Overlook
• Tennessee Landscapes – Sarah Dunlap, Oneida, Tennessee, with Beaver Falls
• Artistic – Nicole Newport, Helenwood, Tennessee, with The Milkyway Over Bandy Creek
• Flora/Fauna – Peggy Yaeger, Corbin, Kentucky, with Toad at Yahoo
• Action/Adventure – Tabatha Carroll, Terre Haute, Indiana, with Mountain Biking Collier Ridge
• Cultural – Sarah Dunlap, Oneida, Tennessee, with O&W Bridge
• Youth – Macy Faith Daugherty, Whitley City, Kentucky, with Adventures on the O&W

Several photographs received honorable mention including:
• Nancy Vanderbeck, Crossville, Tennessee, with O&W Rail Bridge
• Bethany Kinnell, Nicholasville, Kentucky, with Winter Waterfalls
• Michael Cochis, London, Kentucky, with Honey Creek
• DeAnn Kirgan, Rugby, Tennessee, with Oscar Blevins Farm - Butterfly
• Martin McDonald, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with Kayak Surfing
• Keri Williams, Oneida, Tennessee, with The O&W Bridge
• Macy Faith Daugherty, Whitley City, Kentucky, with The Heart of the O&W

During the Art-in-the-Park reception, guests were able to view the photographs submitted for this year’s contest, and cast ballots for the People’s Choice category. The winner of this category was David Mashburn of Berea, Kentucky, with Devil’s Cave.

The winning photos can be found on display at Bandy Creek Visitor Center, located at 151 Stable Road, Oneida, Tennessee.
