Oak Ridge Civic Music Association appoints new choral director

OAK RIDGE, TN – The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association has appointed Dr. Jaclyn Johnson as its new choral director. Dr. Johnson has made it her life goal to share her passion for music with ensembles and audiences around the world.

Before completing her doctoral degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Michigan, Dr. Johnson had a thriving career as a high school choral educator and church musician. Ensembles under her direction have received numerous honors and awards, including performances at the American Choral Directors Association National Conference (2011), Western Division Conference (2010), and Central Division Conference (2014). In 2014, Dr. Johnson represented the United States as an International Exchange Conductor to China. Dr. Johnson is currently the Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Jaclyn Johnson as director of the Oak Ridge chorus,” stated Music Director, Dan Allcott. “I look forward to having a strong artistic partner and to the growth that will come from her leadership.”

“I am honored to be the new Choral Director for ORCMA and to work with such brilliant individuals,” said Johnson. “Oak Ridge has a rich and unique musical history, and I aspire to further this excellence with inspiring and exciting programs. We welcome any new members who have a passion for singing!”

Dr. Johnson will make her debut as Oak Ridge Choral Director at the next Symphony and Chorus Series concert on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. The concert, titled “Chamber Orchestra Delights”, will feature solo performances by members of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Oak Ridge Chorus, with works by Fauré, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Vivaldi, and Janáček.

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is a participant in the Penny4Arts program and offers free admission for students 18 & under to all Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, and Chamber Series performances. Tickets for the concert are $25 for adults and $10 for young adults (19-29 years old). Seating is general admission.

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association presents professional performances in the Oak Ridge community with its symphony, chorus, and chamber music series. Subscription and individual tickets may be purchased online at www.ORCMA.org or by calling (865) 483-5569.
