Encore Theatrical holds auditions for Young Stars production of “Hairspray, Jr.”

MORRISTOWN, TN -- Encore Theatrical Company announces auditions for its Young Stars Series production of “Hairspray, Jr.” on April 2 and 3. Adapted from the Broadway production that won eight Tony Awards, “Hairspray Jr.” is a delightful and fun family-friendly musical.

It's 1962, and spunky, plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has one big dream — to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When she finally gets her shot, she's transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her newfound power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. With the help of her outsized mom, Edna, and guest DJ, Motormouth Maybelle, the rhythm of Tracy's new beat just might prove unstoppable.

The Encore Young Stars Series is open to students ages 8 to 18 (through graduating seniors) to audition for the production. Auditions will take place on Sunday, April 2 and Monday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m. Auditions will be held at Walters State Community College in Morristown. Please bring sheet music and be prepared to sing 32 bars, preferably from the musical theatre genre. An accompanist will be provided. Accompaniment CDs without vocals may be used.

Please dress in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and appropriate shoes for the dance portion of the audition. Please bring a calendar with all conflicts from April 18 - June 11. Rehearsals will begin mid-April with performances scheduled for June 8-11.
