Lexington, KY - The Wrigley Taproom and Appalachian Food Summit present “A Corbin Cornbread Convocation” on August 15th in Corbin, KY, a culinary and literary event honoring and sharing the culture of the Appalachian region, and supporting the work of the Appalachian Food Summit.

Each delicious course prepared by The Wrigley Taproom Chef Kristin Smith will be paired with readings highlighting aspects of mountain foodways and culture, performed by noteable Appalachian authors including Corbin native, Ronni Lundy, as well as Silas House, Michael Croley, Jason Howard, Lora Smith and Marianne Worthington. The evening’s signature cocktail, “Bathtub Gun Bubbly” is a nod to Corbin’s bootlegging and moonshining history. Lundy, author of the James Beard Award Winning “Victuals: An Appalachian Journey,” will have signed copies of the book available for purchase at the event.

“Corbin, like many other small rural towns in Eastern Kentucky, has a rich and unique culinary past,” said Appalachian Food Summit organizer Lora Smith, “Today our vibrant and complex mountain food roots shine through as folks like Chef Kristin Smith are reclaiming and celebrating those traditions and using them to spur new economic growth in the region.”

One of a handful of events occurring throughout the region, “A Corbin Cornbread Convocation” calls people together to raise funds in support of the Appalachian Food Summit. The AFS is a community of writers, scholars, advocates, restaurateurs, farmers, producers, chefs and mountain foodways enthusiasts gathered around the table with a shared mission to honor the past, celebrate the present and support a sustainable future for Appalachia, its food, and its people. In order to do so, The Appalachian Food Summit hosts events like this one, as well as a bi-yearly summit as a fundraising effort.

“A Corbin Cornbread Convocation” benefiting the Appalachian Food Summit will run from 6-8pm on August 15, 2017 at The Wrigley Taproom, located on 207 S Main Street, Corbin, Kentucky. Tickets cost $70 and include 5-courses from Chef Kristin Smith, as well as a signature cocktail. Additional alcoholic beverages, cocktails, wine and beer are available for purchase at the bar. Tickets for the evening may be purchased here.
