An outstanding Memphis artist, Sarah Ahmad, has created an art piece which is being featured at the “Flying Solo” art series at the Nashville International Airport. Measuring 10.5’ x 14’ x 3” and painted on MDF fiberboard, Ahmad’s garden-scape art has been installed in the Ticketing Lobby (North side) of the Nashville International Airport. Ahmad’s exhibition work will run through August 31, 2015.

“Flying Solo” is a quarterly exhibition sponsored by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, Tennessee Arts Commission, and the State of Tennessee. The exhibition project is curated by Mary Grissim, curator of Arts at the Airport at the Nashville International Airport.

“My installations are contemplative environments that alter viewers’ experience,” said Sarah Ahmad. “I use carved geometric patterns from South Asian architecture, juxtaposing fragments with painted shapes producing new structural arrangements. Geometric patterning is broken down and reconstructed, reflecting positive renewal from destructive experiences. Geometric patterns are layered with organic shapes and contradictory elements are merged to generate environments revealing shifting perspectives.”

The work of the award-winning artist has been featured in numerous exhibitions in galleries and cultural centers throughout the United States, including the LuminArte Gallery in Dallas, the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, the New York Center for Photographic Art, and The Gallery at Watershed in Eugene, Oregon. In Tennessee her work has been exhibited at the Hyde Gallery and the Nu Gallery in Memphis. Ahmad received an MFA from the Memphis College of Art, MA Education from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, and BA Fine Arts from the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan.
