GATLINBURG, TN — Artists are invited to enter the 2016 Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage juried art competition. Winning artwork will be used on the cover of the 2016 Wildflower Pilgrimage brochure, T-shirts, and publicity. The winning artist will have the opportunity to exhibit a small selection of original artwork in the Geoffrey A. Wolpert Gallery at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts from March 17 through April 24, 2016.

The Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage celebrates the diverse flora and fauna of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with a five-day event in April every year. Natural history walks, motorcades, photographic and art classes, and indoor seminars guided by professional leaders offer participants an array of informative experiences during the peak of springtime in the Smokies.

This year’s theme is landscape. Any pieces that embody the spirit or characteristics of Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be considered including physical, biological, or historical references to the park’s landscape. Both traditional and abstract interpretations of the landscape will be accepted.

All emerging and professional artists age 18 and over may submit artwork. Acceptable media include watercolor, gouache, pastel, colored pencil, oil, acrylic, printmaking, collage, or combinations of these media. Photography will not be accepted.

All entries must be submitted via SlideRoom by November 20, 2015. The entry fee is $15 for up to two images. Image files must be in jpeg format and no larger than 5MB.

For each image, you will need to provide a title, year created, dimensions and materials. You will be asked to submit a brief artist’s statement about the work. The dialogue box on the entry form is limited to 1,000 characters.

Artists can submit an application at arrowmont.slideroom.com.

The winning image will appear on the cover of the 2016 Wildflower Pilgrimage brochure, T-shirts, and publicity. Original works by the artist will be exhibited in the Geoffrey A. Wolpert Gallery at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts from March 17 – April 24, 2016. The artist will be honored with a public reception at the Wolpert Gallery on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:00pm as part of the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage program. The artist will be expected to attend the exhibition reception. In addition, the artist will receive free registration to the Wildflower Pilgrimage, a free vendor’s booth at the Wildflower Pilgrimage’s display and sales area in Mills Conference Center, as well as free lodging and meals at Arrowmont during the Pilgrimage.
