KNOXVILLE - On Saturday, September 5, 2015, the NFFF Knoxville Memorial Stairclimb will once again take place at the Sunsphere. Stair climb is a special event by the City of Knoxville, SERVPRO® of Rocky Hill/Sequoyah Hills/South Knoxville, and Visit Knoxville.

Participants will climb the stairs of the Sunsphere and surrounding steps equivalent to the 110 stories of the World Trade Center honoring the 343 FDNY Firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, while saving the lives of hundreds of people.

The public is encouraged to attend this free memorial to support those climbing. Participants will be visible from the ground as they climb the 27 floors of the Sunsphere. Some firefighters will climb in full bunker gear which weighs approximately 75 lbs.

"This is an opportunity for us all to remember those who gave their lives on September 11th and recognize the service and dedication of all of our emergency responders," stated Mayor Madeline Rogero.

All proceeds from this event will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation whose mission is to provide educational resources to help prevent line-of-duty deaths for first responders.

"Last year's event was profound, incredibly moving and meaningful. When the bagpipes began playing, the first responders started their climb of remembrance. They are climbing the Sunsphere in honor of those who gave their lives for this country," said Kristina Greenway, Co-Owner of SERVPRO® of Rocky Hill/Sequoyah Hills/South Knoxville.

Registration for participants is exclusive to first responders 18 years old and up and be done online at http://bit.ly/1LltTme.

First Responders include Firefighters, Police, EMS, Volunteer Rescue, and Active/Retired Military - all branches.
