KNOXVILLE — A springtime tradition returns to downtown Knoxville as Home Federal Bank presents Symphony on the Square, a free concert by the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Home Federal Bank is presenting its annual ‘Symphony on the Square’ on Thursday, May 1, 2014. This free concert features tunes from Beethoven and Tchaikovsky

The family-friendly concert takes place on the Bill Lyons Pavilion stage in Market Square Thursday at 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Bijou Theatre.

“Home Federal Bank appreciates the opportunity to support the arts and our community through the continued sponsorship of Symphony on the Square,” said Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling. “We encourage music lovers of all ages to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy free, quality entertainment and all that downtown Knoxville has to offer.”

This year’s Symphony on the Square features classics and pop tunes such as pieces from favorite composers Beethoven and Tchaikovsky as well as “Rocky Top,” and John Philip Sousa’s “Washington Post March.” A highlight will be violinist and concert master Gabriel Lefkowitz’ performance of Sarasate’s “Ziguenerweisen.”

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early and bring blankets and/or chairs to enjoy the concert. Concert goers can also bring picnic dinners or pick up food at one of the many downtown restaurants. Parking is free after 6 p.m. in city-owned Market Square, Locust Street and State Street garages.

The event is part of the City of Knoxville’s Concerts on the Square series, which provides free concerts on Market Square on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 1 through August 26.
