Quilters Road Show set for Saturday, May 3 in Townsend
TOWNSEND, TN — Thrivent Financial for Lutherans & Smoky Mountain Quilters will present the 8th annual Quilters Road Show at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, TN on Saturday, May 3, 2014. There is no charge for the quilt event. Regular admission price applies to tour the museum and outbuildings. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visitors can view display quilts provided by Foothills Quilters.
You can participate in this unique event by bringing your heirloom quilts and register on-site. Merikay Waldvogel, Becky Harriss and Jan Wass will evaluate quilt histories, patterns and fabrics, and offer preservation tips, at no charge.
You can also help piece quilts for the Ronald McDonald House.
Featured Demonstrations include a Treadle Machine Demo by Maria Goetz and Paper Piecing by Marian Sykes.
Congressional Medal of Honor Quilt Project will also be on display with a sample of the more than 85 quilts that are being presented to Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and their families at their annual convention in Knoxville this September. Each of the current living recipients was “adopted” by a quilter or group of quilters across East Tennessee who made a quilt to thank him for his extraordinary service to his country and fellow soldiers. A larger selection of these quilts will be part of a special exhibit during the Smoky Mountain Quilters Guild quilt show at Maryville College May 23 – 25, 2014. All of the quilts will be on public display in the Knoxville Convention Center during the CMOH Society convention September 10-13, 2014.
