Voting now open for Movies on Market Square

KNOXVILLE — Movies on Market Square will kick off its 11th season on September 12. Knox County Public Library hosts the family-friendly outdoor movies every Friday night from September 12 through October 17. This event is for the whole family, including well-mannered pooches, to see a free movie presented by Lusid Media.

The public will decide the lineup through an online vote and at polling stations at all Knox County Public Library locations or online at www.knoxlib.org/movies. Contenders include movies in the following categories: Action-Adventure, Children's/Animation, Teens, Grab Bag, and Classic Hollywood. Squaring off are Rocky and Indiana Jones, Shrek and the Kung Fu Panda, Mrs. Doubtfire and Harry Potter, and Holly Golightly and Atticus Finch.

Voting begins August 21 and runs through September 1. The winning lineup will be announced on September 4 on www.knoxlib.org and through media outlets.

Lusid Media, a fast-growing producer of cable network shows, has joined Knox County Public Library for the 2nd year as the presenting sponsor of Movies on Market Square. "We love being a part of downtown Knoxville -- and the library is a great resource for our community -- so we're excited to help sponsor this event. What could be better than bringing our town together to enjoy some great movies and celebrate our great libraries" commented Zak Weisfeld, president of Lusid Media.

Knox County Public Library could not produce this free outdoor movie series without the generous support of its sponsors: Lusid Media, Downtown Knoxville, The Trust Company, The Tomato Head, KnoxLife Church, the City of Knoxville, KUB, Springboard Audiovisual, Knoxville News Sentinel, Metro Pulse, WBIR, andB97.5.

The Library produces Movies on Market Square to highlight its vast movie and music collection. With nearly 13,000 titles of feature films, documentaries, TV shows, and how-to films, the movie collection is one of the most popular circulating collections at the Library. Downloadable resources of ebooks, audiobooks and streaming music have grown in popularity and continue to be a focus of collection development for Knox County Public Library.
