KNOXVILLE — The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present the second annual Knoxville Photo 2014, an exhibition featuring selected works from 36 artists throughout the region and developed to provide a forum for photographers to compete on a national scale and display their work. The exhibition encompasses photographs depicting all subjects and genres, including streetscapes, cityscapes, landscapes, environmental portraiture, portraits, abstracts, and more, and will be displayed in the Emporium Center from May 2-31, 2014. A public reception will take place on First Friday, May 2, from 5:00-9:00 pm.

On Friday, May 2, juror Joe Longobardi will give a free talk/discussion at 4:00 pm at the Emporium Center. Longobardi viewed images from more than 75 artists to select the exhibition. “Photography continues to be about the experience shared by both the individual who captures a moment in time and those who view the final image,” he said. “The art of photography has taken on a ubiquity of almost spiritual significance; the current trend of self-exploration disseminated through self-publishing and social media has hopefully given us pause to see the world a little smaller, as well as understand our role as occupants of the planet.”

Joe Longobardi has worked professionally as a photographer for seven years in the Asheville, North Carolina area engaging in editorial, portrait, documentary, and street photography. He exhibits locally and regionally in group and solo shows. His photos have also appeared a number of publications and books including Our State Magazine (NC) and The Defibulators Songbook by Mel Bay Publications. He is a regular contributor to the Laurel of Asheville Magazine writing instructional articles on photography techniques featuring examples of his work. Longobardi is a member of the f32 Group that helps promote the art and appreciation of photography through lectures and seminars. He has several books in the works featuring photographs of downtown Asheville that explore the city's unique bohemian lifestyle. For more information, visit www.joelongobardiphotography.com.
