Dogwood Chalk Walk to Paint downtown Knoxville in style

KNOXVILLE – Chalk in hand, more than one hundred professional and student artists will take to the streets of Downtown Knoxville once again for the 6th annual Dogwood Arts Chalk Walk on April 5, 2014. With a stretch of sidewalk serving as a canvas, artists will allow their creativity to take control, transforming gray asphalt into a beautiful, moving piece of art, all before the public.

Dogwood Arts takes pride in revitalizing the 16th century Italian folk art of street painting, which became somewhat rare in the middle of the 20th century. Dogwood Arts has continued to promote this event as a way to uphold the history of the lost art, as well as to unite the community with its artists.

In addition, original work by Chalk Walk participants will be available for purchase at the event. As with previous years, the best work will be recognized for individuals and groups at different age levels.

Chalk Walk will take place on Market Square and Krutch Park (Downtown Knoxville) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 5th. It is presented by Avanti Savoia and sponsored by Jerry’s Artarama.
