Movies on Market Square kicks off 10th year with online voting

KNOXVILLE -- Knox County Public Library’s Movies on Market Square is turning 10, making it the longest running entertainment series on the Square. On September 13, the 10th season of family-friendly outdoor movies launches its fall line-up. Every Friday night from September 13-October 18, the public is invited to bring the whole family, including their favorite, well behaved four-pawed, tail-wagging companion to see a free, family movie presented by Lusid Media.

Celebrating a decade of Movies on Market Square, this year's line up will come straight from the movies shown over the years. The public gets to decide the top picks from the past 10 years, but it won't be easy. Squaring off are such powerhouses as Ferris Beuller's Day Off and The Princess Bride from the first year. The Wizard of Oz goes head to head with Willie Wonka from the 2006-2007 seasons. From last year's line-up, the big question is whether Despicable Me will be able to shake down The Hunger Games again. Organizers have finally conceded that the perennial loser, Rocky, will not be on the ballot, but still hope for a grass roots write-in campaign.

Voting begins today and runs through August 25 at www.knoxlib.org/movies. The winning line-up will be announced August 29 in Metro Pulse and on www.knoxlib.org.

Lusid Media, a fast-growing producer of cable network shows, has joined Knox County Public Library as the presenting sponsor of Movies on Market Square. "We love being a part of downtown Knoxville - and the library is a great resource for our community - so we're excited to help sponsor this event. What could be better than bringing our town together to enjoy some great movies and celebrate our great libraries," commented Zak Weisfeld, president and president of Lusid Media.

Knox County Public Library could not produce this free outdoor movie series without the generous support of its sponsors: Lusid Media, Downtown Knoxville, PetSafe, The Trust Company, The Tomato Head, KnoxLife Church, the City of Knoxville, KUB, Lunar Cinemas, Metro Pulse, WBIR, Comcast, and B97.5.

The Library produces Movies on Market Square to highlight its vast movie and music collection. With nearly 13,000 titles of feature films, documentaries, TV shows, and how-to films, the movie collection is one of the most popular circulating collections at the Library.

Born and headquartered in downtown Knoxville, Lusid Media is a fast-growing producer of cable network television with shows for networks as diverse as A&E, Travel Channel, HGTV and Discovery. From food to international travel to true crime, Lusid brings big characters and great stories to television sets across the country.

Since 1886, the people of Knox County have been fortunate to have an impressive collection of library resources. Today, the Knox County Public Library is prouder than ever to offer more than one million books, periodicals, CDs, films, and audiobooks.
