Knoxville Jazz Orchestra presents Dizzy Atmosphere with trumpeter Sean Jones
The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra's 13th anniversary 2012-13 concert season
continues on Tuesday, April 9th at 8pm with Dizzy Atmosphere with
trumpeter Sean Jones. The program will be held at the Bijou Theatre at
803 South Gay Street.
Dizzy Gillespie's rare combination of instrumental virtuosity, musical
innovation and charisma made him one of the most influential and beloved
figures in jazz history. His puffed cheeks, bent horn, bohemian berets
and whimsical sense of humor fused perfectly with his astonishing music,
charming audiences around the world and transforming him into a true
musical icon. To help honor Diz, KJO has enlisted Sean Jones, one of
today's most dynamic young stars. Longtime KJO fans may remember Jones as
the trumpeter who blew the roof off the Tennessee Theatre at the 2009
Swingin' Christmas concert. His lightning-fast runs, powerful
upper-register work and gorgeous tone left mouths agape and inspired calls
for a command performance.
The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra is a 17 piece big band comprised of
professional musicians from across the region. Since its inception in
1999, the orchestra has performed dozens of concerts in East Tennessee,
appeared on major jazz festivals in Europe, performed and recorded with
internationally acclaimed guest artists, and released four critically
acclaimed CD recordings.
Tickets for the event are $29.50 adult, $15.00 student. Tickets are
available in advance at www.knoxjazz.org, by calling 684-1200 or by
visiting the Tennessee Theatre Box office.
