KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC — Multi-award winning and internationally known recording star Donny Richmond, who makes his home in Sevier County, TN, received another distinction recently. In King’s Mountain, North Carolina, where Donny was performing a concert at Penley’s Chapel, Mayor Rick Murphrey stepped forward for a special presentation to Richmond of The Key To The City. In a statement to the enthusiastic gathering, the Mayor recognized Richmond for spreading the gospel message in the entertainment industry, both in the U.S. and internationally, while remaining consistent to his Christian beliefs.

Much of Richmond’s work is done on behalf of charities and is free to the public. Known for reaching secular as well as Christian audiences, Richmond appears on the “Stonewall Jackson & Super Friends” CD along with Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Alison Kraus, Tim McGraw, and Charlie Daniels. This CD includes 50 artists considered to be among the best loved country music artists ever. Donny is a recipient of the Living Legend Award from the Country Gospel Music Association located in Branson, Missouri. He has also been awarded Artist of the Decade, as well as Entertainer of the Decade by the ICGMA. Donny was appearing in King’s Mountain for a special concert and prayer service and to help usher in the Christmas season.

As a trendsetter and leader amongst performing artists, Richmond has also been awarded honorary “Colonel” by the Governor of Tennessee. Other national awards include Male Vocalist, Songwriter, Producer, and Top TV Personality. Richmond’s music videos and TV shows have aired on national TV networks around the globe. He has scored 11 national #1s in the U.S., and since 2006 Donny has charted over 20 singles in Europe, including #1s in more than a dozen countries, as tabulated by the European Country Music Assn. His concerts are considered a “must see” by country music fans. He has appeared on The Grand Ole Opry, and with such notables as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and Willie Nelson. Mayor Murphrey noted that he has very rarely bestowed the Key To The City, and that King’s Mountain was very appreciative of the continued diligence of someone of Donny’s stature. The Mayor also warmly noted that Richmond should return to King’s Mountain often, as he may now “have access to the entire town”. King’s Mountain is located about 175 miles southeast of Sevierville, TN.

Donny’s Christmas TV Special will air on Christian Television Network TV 48 during the week of Christmas and includes his #1 2009 European Christmas single, “That’s What Christmas Means,” written by Donny, David Walker, and Randy Smith. The recording includes legendary performances by Hall Of Fame musicians such as James Burton on guitar, Boots Randolph on sax, The Jordanaires on backup vocals, and Charlie McCoy on harmonica and vibes. McCoy, who has backed artists such as Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, is a recent inductee to the Country Music Hall Of Fame and calls Donny’s “That’s What Christmas Means” “the best new Christmas song I’ve heard in quite some time”.
