World Premiere of Chronicles of Blue and Gray to be presented in Knoxville
KNOXVILLE -- The World Premiere of Chronicles of Blue and Gray by Knoxville composer John Purifoy will be presented at the historic Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville on Saturday, November 10, 2012.
Participating in this Fall concert will be the Knoxville Choral Society, Knoxville Chamber Chorale, Carson Newman A Cappella Choir, members of the Knoxville Symphony, and folk musicians.
Chronicles is a major work spanning the Civil War in three parts: the familiar battle and rallying songs, the agony of suffering, and the healing process as experienced by both sides. Many of the folk songs of this time have been wonderfully arranged by the composer, plus the addition of beautiful new material.
The first part of the concert also features music of the Civil War period by the Choral Society, the Chamber Chorale and the Carson Newman A Cappella Choir. The second half is the 40-minute Chronicles of Blue and Gray with full orchestra and 200-voice choir.
The concert will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at www.TennesseeTheatre.com or at the door, or from a KCS member beginning in October.
