U.S. Cellular and Knoxville emergency officials host Safety Day

U.S. Cellular is hosting a summer Safety Day at the Turkey Creek retail store west Knoxville with the Knox County Sheriff's Department and Rural/Metro Fire Department officials. This event is on Saturday, August 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

U.S. Cellular and local emergency officials will offer safety tips to families. The Knox County Sheriff's Department will distribute kids' police badges and "My Friend the Sheriff" coloring books from 11:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. Rural/Metro will bring a rescue truck and rescue boat on site from noon-4 p.m. (except for if and when the team receives an emergency call). Kids will enjoy games and prizes as well and will receive free DNA kits.

Attendees also will learn how to sign up for wireless AMBER Alerts, an initiative that allows wireless subscribers to receive AMBER Alerts as free text messages on their cell phones. U.S. Cellular associates will also teach families how to program ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts into phones for easy access during an emergency situation and help children learn how to dial 911 from a cell phone.

Local children visit with local fire and police officials to learn about safety. U.S. Cellular associates teaching parents and children about wireless safety tools.

It all happens at U.S. Cellular, 11125 Parkside Drive in Turkey Creek in west Knoxville.
