Down on the Farm at the Fair

KNOXVILLE – This September, elementary aged students from throughout East Tennessee have a unique opportunity to learn more about life on a farm and the importance of agriculture.

On Tuesday, September 11, the Tennessee Valley Fair will host Down on the Farm at the Fair at Chilhowee Park. Designed especially for children, (Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade) this free educational event offers 8 interactive stations. During each tour, students will learn about farming, crops, cows, rabbits, poultry, sheep, insects and more. Tours are available at 9:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.

Each year the Fair provides wide range of activities showcasing the very best of local agriculture while fostering local talent and ingenuity through award winning exhibits and special events like Down on the Farm at the Fair. More than 1,600 East Tennessee elementary students attended this program in 2011.

Schools and home school programs throughout East Tennessee are invited to participate in this free event. To sign-up, contact Tammy Bounds at 865-215-1470. Registration deadline is August 24.

The 93rd annual Tennessee Valley Fair is scheduled for September 7-16, 2012.
