WDVX Wins 7th Bluegrass Radio Station Award

KNOXVILLE -- WDVX, a community radio station in Knoxville, earned Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year at the 37th Annual Bluegrass Music Awards. The awards were held by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) this past weekend in Nashville.

"It was a great honor to accept the award on behalf of the station," says Freddy Smith, who accepted the award at the show from presenters Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent of the Bluegrass duo Dailey and Vincent. "It's great to see how we have grown from a camper in the hills of Tennessee to this."

This is the seventh Bluegrass radio station of the year win for WDVX. Tony Lawson, WDVX Program Director and DJ, is thrilled at the amount of support the radio station has in the community and on a national level. "It feels really good to get the support of the fans and artists in the community," says Lawson, adding "We are very privileged and grateful to have great Bluegrass hosts who bring their knowledge and music collections to their shows and continue to produce for our programming." Most of the WDVX specialty shows are hosted by community volunteers.

WDVX is a listener-supported, non-profit radio station that promotes the rich cultural heritage of the Southern Appalachian region and educates local, national, and international audiences by providing a venue for original and underrepresented music and other cultural arts; promoting the tradition of live radio; nurturing emerging talent; and creating listener communities across the globe.
