Knoxville Zoo is Ready for Winter's Black Tie Event

penguin daysBy Jeaneane Payne

The Knoxville Zoo is ready for its annual winter Black Tie Event, but the only ones required to wear a tuxedo are penguins during Penguin Discount Days.

How cool will it be to visit the zoo between December 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012? Very cool! It will be the coolest place in Knoxville to visit with the best news being that admission to Knoxville Zoo is half-off.

Winter is a fun time to visit the zoo, so bundle up and get on over to Penguin Discount Days. Many of the zoo's animals enjoy the crisp weather and are more active on cooler days.

If you get chilly during your visit, drop in to the Wee Play Zoo where you can play and warm up.

Some animals are moved to indoor enclosures if the temperature drops below 40 degrees, but even on colder days you can still see elephants, gorillas, penguins, reptiles, and bears in their indoor viewing areas.

Half-price admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo ticket office during regular zoo hours. Tickets can also be purchased at all Knoxville area Kroger stores and online at www.knoxvillezoo.org. Discounted admission tickets must be used by Feb. 29, 2012, and cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or coupon.

Knoxville Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. It is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission and ticket sales stop one-hour before the zoo closes. Next-day admission is free after 3 p.m. For more information, please call 865-637-5331 or visit www.knoxvillezoo.org.
