Publix launches Tools for Back to School campaign

KNOXVILLE – Having the right school supplies can mean the difference between a passing or a failing grade. That’s why Publix Super Markets will offer the Tools for Back to School campaign Thursday, July 24 through Wednesday, August 13. Customers and associates are encouraged to stop by their neighborhood Publix to donate $5, $7 or $10 which will be used to purchase much needed school supplies for local teachers, students and non-profit organizations.

“Our Tools for Back to School program grew out of the need to help students and teachers,” said Brenda Reid, Publix media and community relations manager. “Many families do not have the resources to purchase school supplies and often times teachers spend their own money to buy supplies for their students. That’s why this program is so important. It supports families and classroom teachers.”

More than 1,000 Publix stores will have a Tools for Back to School display near the registers. The display will include tear-off tickets valued at $5, $7 and $10. Customers may tear off a ticket and give it to the cashier when they check out. The amount on the ticket will be added to their grocery order. Customers who donate will receive a specially designed reusable bag. The school supplies will be shipped in bulk to non-profit organizations and schools. Items donated will include notebooks, crayons, color pencils, markers, #2 pencils, notebook paper, folders, scissors, and glue.

Publix is privately owned and operated by its 168,500 employees, with 2013 sales of $28.9 billion. Currently Publix has 1,077 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. The company has been named one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For in America” for 17 consecutive years. In addition, Publix’s dedication to superior quality and customer service is recognized as tops in the grocery business, most recently by an American Customer Satisfaction Index survey.
