KNOXVILLE – U.S. Cellular associates and the “Band of Better” team – the company’s community outreach ambassadors - led a Tech Day at the Haslam Family Club University Boys and Girls Club to teach youngsters how to use iPads to continue learning over the summer.

The U.S. Cellular team also surprised the children with the donation of $5,000 and 10 iPad Airs to create the “U.S. Cellular Tablet Station” in the club’s technology lab. The day served as a signature event in the community for the company’s Better Day program, which launched earlier this month.

“Today was a ‘Better Day’ to be a Boys and Girls Clubs member and a U.S. Cellular associate,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “It was so exciting to see the children’s faces when they realized the club could keep the iPads they’d been using and will have funds to support the new ‘U.S. Cellular Tablet Station’ in their technology lab.”

Throughout July and August, U.S. Cellular is visiting locations throughout Knoxville to enhance summer and provide residents with unique experiences at their favorite local businesses, community parks, festivals and fairs as part of the Better Day program. The “Band of Better” team is surprising residents with giveaways and other items to help them enjoy summer to its fullest.

According to Lisa Hurst, CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, U.S. Cellular’s gift will make a big impact on the equipment available for children to use in the technology lab.

“It’s important our kids have access to the latest technology,” Hurst said. “We’re so grateful to have companies like U.S. Cellular who support our mission and community by giving back to our clubs.”
