Knoxville’s only local enterprise IT firm takes on a
new name under fresh leadership

Locally owned SH Data Technologies is rebranding to TenHats, reflecting its strategy, mission and value proposition as the company and its services grow.

TenHats offers a broad range of enterprise IT services with a customizable approach designed to help organizations of all sizes meet their current needs and achieve their future goals.

Founded in 2016, the company has assembled a strong team of IT experts to provide a broad range of technology services including a recently opened modern, carrier-neutral, purpose-built colocation data center, the region’s first in over 20 years.

“We’re excited about the new name. It helps communicate our broad range of capabilities and expertise,” CEO Brian Strong said. “Many businesses owners and IT professionals have to wear the networking hat, the cybersecurity hat, the tech support hat, and so on. We want to wear some or all of those hats for our clients so they can focus on what matters most to them.”

Strong is a part of the new leadership at TenHats. Previously serving as TenHats’ Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Strong is now transitioning to CEO and looking to the future.

“I’m excited to be the CEO. It’s a real honor,” Strong said. “Talking to business leaders over the last several years, I’ve noticed a need in the region for a locally owned enterprise IT firm that can serve the diversity of businesses in our area. TenHats is establishing itself as the region’s premier IT services provider for organizations of all sizes. Now my mission is to show people why.”

In November, Aaron Sherrill joined TenHats as CTO after leaving his position as a Senior Research Analyst for 451 Research, S&P Global’s intelligence arm. In this role, he advised and consulted some of the largest technology firms in the market. Previously, Sherrill served as the VP of Information Security and CTO for two enterprise-managed service providers as well as working in information technology for the FBI.

“Finding the right balance between technology and business operations is a challenge for any organization,” Sherrill said. “However, technology has the potential to fundamentally change the way businesses operate and deliver value to their customers. The challenge is successfully meeting these opportunities. It’s my job to make sure our clients are equipped to succeed in the new digital age.”

Covenant Health, East Tennessee’s largest employer, became the primary owner of TenHats early in the company’s history. Although TenHats is operationally independent, it handles Covenant Health’s technology purchasing, provides colocation services, advanced expertise, and space in its building for Covenant Health’s new Virtual Care Operations Center.
