DOE awards $400,000 to AMS Corporation
June 12, 2022

KNOXVILLE -- Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS) will receive nearly $400,000 as awardees of two of the 259 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grants recently announced for small businesses in 38 states. DOE Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards aim at transforming DOE-supported science and technology breakthroughs into viable products and services.

AMS will receive $199,351 for an SBIR Phase I project entitled, “Development of Cable Insulation Materials for Small Modular Reactors,” that will be led by AMS Cable Services Group Manager, Mr. Casey Sexton. This project will enhance the performance of existing nuclear grade cables for the new generation of reactors.

AMS will also receive $199,560 for an STTR Phase I project entitled, “Advanced Process Instrumentation System for Next-Generation Nuclear Reactors,” that will be led by AMS Senior Research Engineer, Mr. Alexander Hashemian. This project will result in an advanced instrumentation system that will provide accurate and reliable measurements of critical process parameters such as temperature, flow, and level and thus enable the safe, efficient, and timely deployment of next-generation reactor technologies. AMS will be working with Dr. Richard Skifton of Idaho National Laboratory and Mr. Doug Corbett of Idaho Laboratories Corporation on this project.

AMS President Dr. Hash Hashemian said, “AMS is honored to be awarded two DOE projects in support of the next generation of nuclear power plants. These projects will develop technologies that will help enable safe and efficient operation of these new power plants and our company is proud to play a role in furthering the state of the art in advanced nuclear technology.”
