Dupré Logistics SCS opens new Knoxville branch

KNOXVILLE - Dupré Logistics is opening a new Strategic Capacity Services (SCS) branch in the Knoxville area, its 12th SCS location to open since August 2016. Dupré’s SCS business group is an asset-based provider of logistics services that includes freight brokerage, intermodal and transportation management.

Dupré has named Chip Hawkins as manager of its new SCS Knoxville office.

“Not only is Knoxville located at the intersection of multiple interstates — Interstate 40 and Interstate 75, it is also centrally located to serve the Southeast. The tremendous industry in the area make it the perfect choice for a Dupré Logistics SCS location,” said Mike Weindel, Vice President of SCS at Dupré Logistics. “We are pleased that Chip Hawkins, who knows the area well, will lead our new office in Knoxville. Chip has 30 years of experience in logistics. We are thrilled he’s joined our team.”

Hawkins says the decision to join Dupré was an easy one.

“It’s the people. I’ve known some of the Dupré folks for a long time. I respect them and the values the company is built on,” Hawkins said. “Dupré is a solid company with a long history of providing extra service — and everything is service in the brokerage industry.”

According to Weindel, Hawkins’ people skills and industry knowledge were key to his being tapped to lead the team in Knoxville.

“One of Chip’s strengths is people development, taking talent and getting the most from it — training, mentoring, the whole nine-yards,” Weindel said. “We’ve built a lot of success at Dupré by focusing on customer follow-up. He excels at that.”

Hawkins says the office will initially have four people working in it, but the company expects rapid growth and is looking to hire people with experience in the logistics industry.

“Dupré is in the 3PL sweet spot — we are large enough to have the critical mass to get the job done quickly, safely and in a cost-effective way, but we’re small enough to give every customer the attention needed,” said Weindel. “We’re looking forward to being in Knoxville — it’s a fantastic town with great people. We’re looking forward to being in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and getting there just in time for the University of Tennessee football.”
